The Varina Lions Club has officially kicked off its 5th Annual Sportsman’s Raffle.  As in  previous years, we will be awarding 12 guns/bows in our drawings which begin Nov. 7th and run thru Nov. 12th.

  • Leader Dogs for the Blind

2011 Canoe-A-Thon

Preparations are in full swing for the 19th Annual Canoe-A-Thon in Richmond, Virginia! We have charted a course for the participating canoers that embarks from Rocketts Landing, takes the paddlers down the historic James River (during which you will see Tree Hill Farm, Deepwater Terminal,  Drewry’s Bluff and Chaffin’s Bluff) to the take out at Osburne Landing, where an ferry once crossed the river in the 18th century. Here, the canoers will enjoy a Barbeque Picnic lunch!

The event is scheduled for Sunday, May 22, 2011 and we expect another great turnout. All donations are tax deductible and help to support the Lion civic initiatives, which include:

  • Leader Dog, Inc.
  • Prevent Blindness of Virginia
  • Eye exams & glasses for the needy
  • Local Scholarships

Community Fund Raiser in March

The Varina Lions Club recently celebrated Fifty Three (53) years of service to the Varina District community in the eastern Henrico.  We hold several major fund raising projects each year to support both sight-impaired and hearing-impaired individuals, to promote diabetes awareness and to educate our your about drug abuse. On March 15, 2011, we will be holding the next big fund raiser, our Community Auction. Please have a look and contact us if you would like to help out!

Sportsman Raffle Update

The Varina Lions Club is raffling off 12 guns/bows to raise funds for our community. Only 333 tickets are being sold and each ticket is eligible to win all 12 prizes. Wide variety of weapons that include Barreta’s, Benelli’s, Browning’s, etc. are up for grabs. Average price of gun/bow being raffled is $820.00. Tickets are selling for $50.00 each. Tickets going fast. Raffle ends 10/31/10. If interested, please call 804.356.1093. First 2 drawings will be November 1, 2010. Contribute to a great cause!

September Update

Our Steak Feast was a big success this past month.  We had a large boisterous crowd, who seemed to really enjoy themselves.  Food was top notch and Lion Curtis once again grilled the perfect steaks.  The auction was also a huge success!

Welcome to our newest Lion Gail Barnes! Lion Gail has visited with us over the past several months and was sponsored by Lion Ann Harris  who will serve as her Guiding Lion for the next year.

At our second meeting this month on October 19th,  the most interesting and colorful club in Varina will host our District Governor, Lion Susan Evans for her official club visit.  Everyone will want to attend to hear DG Sue’s message and plans for our district this year.

Tickets are still available for the Sportsman Raffle.
